How to Colour Code Gmail Labels with Custom Colours

You can easily boost your productivity in Gmail with colour labels. You can scan your inbox and find what you need in seconds.

Not only can you customise the colour of the labels, but you can also change the font colour to make them easier to read.

Your labels sit on the left side, and you can access the label colour by hovering over the label and clicking the three dots.

Click 'Label colour' and select from the grid of colours, or click 'Add custom colour'.

Gmail sidebar with labels open; a label color menu and color palette overlay the inbox, showing options like Show, Edit, Remove label

The 'Add custom colour' box will pop up, and you can select the background colour on the left and the text colour on the right, then click 'Apply'.

The label is then ready to use, and you can drag and drop it to your emails.

You can give the colours meaning; some people like to use the traffic light system to flag the urgency of the emails and when they need to be actioned.
