Mystery Solved: Who Changed Cell C14 on the Budget Google Sheet at 11:00 PM last night?
It is great that we have left behind the days of "can you leave the spreadsheet so I can edit it?", collaboration has completely changed how we work as a team.
However, it can come with the new issue of "who deleted cell c14?", or does it?
🔍 Mystery : Who changed cell C14 on the budget sheet at 11:00 PM last night? And how can I find out?
Solution Number 1 - Google Sheets Version History
You don't need to save files Budgetsheet_v2_FINAL_v44 anymore! You just need to utilise the version history, all the documents history is saved here and you can copy from older versions or restore a previous version.
Step 1 - Go to File then Version history and See Version history
Step 2 - You can click through the timestamped versions, by default it will just show you the edited cells, if you would like to see the whole sheet make sure you select 'Show unmodified rows'. It will highlight the changes in a colour for each person.
Step 3 - You can click the 3 dots next to a version to name it (making it easier to go back to) and you can make a copy.
Solution Number 2 - Cell Edit History
This one is our favourites, it is so quick and easy, not much detective work needed at all. Instead of accessing the full Google Doc or Google Sheet version history you can access a specific cells history.
Step 1 - Right click on the cell
Step 2 - Select 'Show edit history'
Step 3 - Click through to see changes to that cell.
