The Microsoft Teams Mute/Unmute Spacebar Shortcut

When we are running a training session, we like people to mute to avoid background noise and then unmute to ask a question, so this is a tip we give in our sessions.

We notice this scenario happens a lot: you want to ask a question, or someone asks you a question in a meeting, and you cannot find the Microsoft Teams window or unmute button quickly enough! Or you hear your team say, 'You're still on mute'.

Here is the fastest way to remedy that situation, and once you start using it, it becomes second nature.

If you just want to unmute to reply quickly you need to hold down Ctrl and Spacebar (Windows) or Option and Spacebar (Mac). Once you release these keys, you resume being on mute.

You might have to enable this in Settings> Privacy> Turn on keyboard shortcut to unmute.

If you would like to unmute for longer use the Ctrl Shift & M (Windows) or Command Shift & M (Mac) shortcut to toggle mute and unmute!
